1960 Lincoln Type Set Four different cents in one year! In 1959, the U.S. Mint introduced a design in honor of the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. Frank Gasparro designed the new reverse for the Lincoln cent - the Lincoln Memorial design!Midway through 1960, the U.S. Mint decided to tweak the first new design again. The result: two distinct pennies were created. They are known as the Large date and Small date cents. As the name implies, the date was slightly larger or smaller depending upon the minting of the penny. Eventually, the U.S. Mint settled on the larger sized date. The results of these changes yielded four different Lincoln cents in 1960, known as the 1960 Small Date/Large Date Type Set. This complete collection features a large date and small date issued from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints.
